I also read a similar story, but it is about a practice or a technique: When somebody feels sad/low/agitated, they'll do better if they identify the underlying emotion and provide that themselves. For example, if they are down because they look ugly(which can't be changed), the underlying emotion is fighting to avoid rejection or seeking acceptance from others.

Or, for feeling low because of joblessness, the underlying demon may be worthlessness.

For compulsive eating, it could be need to feel secured.

So they better provide themselves what they seek from outside, by bringing attention to the feeling sensation in the body and providing the acceptance/love/security/warmth.
